Integrative Support Alongside Evidence-Based PHP and IOP in Agoura Hills, California
FOY Wellness and Recovery is a licensed PHP and IOP program in Agoura Hills, California for adults with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or both. Our approach brings Western and Eastern traditions together: evidence-based therapy at the core, supported by holistic practices that help you regulate stress, build awareness, and reconnect with your body.
Our clinical programming is overseen by Clinical Director Dr. Shannon Dobbs, a licensed clinical psychologist. Holistic modalities are part of your individualized treatment plan. They support therapy and do not replace it.
FOY is in-network with Blue Shield, Cigna, and TRICARE through TriWest, and we work with out-of-network PPO plans including Anthem, Aetna, Multiplan, HMC HealthWorks, and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
How Modalities Fit Into Your Treatment
Recovery affects the mind, body, and daily habits. Therapy helps you understand patterns and build skills. Holistic practices give you additional ways to calm the nervous system, manage cravings and stress, and stay present.
Some modalities, such as meditation, breathwork, yoga, and nutritional guidance, have research behind them as supportive tools. Others, such as energy healing, sound healing, and chakra work, are optional practices that many people find restorative, though they have limited clinical research. We describe each one honestly, and we never present a holistic practice as a cure or as a substitute for medical or psychological care.
Your treatment team selects and schedules modalities based on your needs and preferences.
Mind and Breath Practices
Meditation. Guided practices that build present-moment awareness and help you respond, not react, to stress, cravings, and difficult emotions. Mindfulness-based approaches have research support in anxiety, depression, and relapse prevention.
Breathwork. Structured breathing techniques that influence the body’s stress response. Slow, controlled breathing is widely used to ease anxiety and promote calm.
Yoga. Movement, breath, and mindfulness together. Research suggests yoga can help with stress, mood, and sleep. Sessions are adapted to different abilities.
Somatic Integration. Body-based practices that build awareness of sensations and help the nervous system settle, often used alongside trauma-informed therapy.
Body-Based and Restorative Practices
Bodywork. Hands-on or movement-based practices that support relaxation and physical tension release.
Sound Healing. Sessions using instruments such as singing bowls and gongs to create a calm, meditative environment. Many people find it relaxing. Research on its clinical effects is limited, and it is offered as an optional complement.
Energy Healing. A traditional practice focused on relaxation and a sense of balance. It has no established clinical evidence as a treatment for any condition, and is offered as an optional complement.
Creative and Expressive Practices
Art Therapy. Creating art as a way to express and process thoughts and feelings that are hard to put into words. Art therapy is used in mental health and addiction settings.
Expressive Arts. Movement, writing, music, and other creative forms that support self-expression, emotional release, and connection with others.
Nutrition and Wellness
Assessment
Food affects mood, energy, and recovery. Our nutrition-related offerings support healthy habits you can carry forward.
Nutritional Guidance. Practical education on eating well in recovery, including regular meals, blood sugar balance, hydration, and managing cravings. This is general wellness guidance and not medical nutrition therapy.
Assessment. Every client begins with a free, confidential assessment. We learn your history, symptoms, goals, and insurance, and use it to build your individualized plan.
Where Modalities Take Place

Insurance and Modalities
In-network: Blue Shield, Cigna, and TRICARE through TriWest.
Out-of-network PPO: Anthem, Aetna, Multiplan, HMC HealthWorks, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Many PPO plans reimburse part of PHP and IOP costs. We verify your benefits at no cost and explain what your plan is expected to cover. Insurance generally pays for the level of care, such as PHP or IOP, and not for individual holistic services, which are part of the program.
